Research Details

This research focuses on how people relate to others and how this relation influences their behavior. We created a smartphone application where you can report the number of cigarettes you smoked and your report history is visualized as bar graphs. You can choose whether you want to see only your own progress or to see your progress in relation to that of other users (e.g. your daily “cigarette report” alongside the report of a person you know, or the average among all users, etc.) After the use of the application, you will be invited to tell us your opinion about the data you saw: was it helpful for you? what data did you choose to see and why? Your answers will give us insights on whether people want to relate to others, in what way they want to relate to others and why, and the number of cigarettes you smoked each day.

Your participation is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw at any point of the research without giving any further explanations but just inform the researchers about your withdrawal. Your data will be handled according to European Union (E.U.) regulations.

Requirements for the participation:

  • Be a smoker who wishes to quit
  • Own an Android smartphone running Android 5 (Lollipop) or higher
  • Be over 18 years old
  • Live in a European Union (E.U.) country

What you will be asked to do:

  • Install and use the app for about 30 days
  • Fill in a survey (approximately 15-20 min)
  • Invited for an online interview (approximately 20 - 30 min)

More details on the research can be found on the informed consent
